The Macedonian Church Model For Giving
- Nothing we give will ever matter much at all unless we first give ourselves to The Lord. Goodwill, charity, even tithing that isn’t a literal overflowing of the grace of God in our lives as a result of consecrating ourselves to The Lord, is vanity. Matthew 6:1 "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
- The trials of life become the tools of love when we no longer live for self, but live to serve God and His people. James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,a whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
- Giving beyond our means is a major indicator of our faith in God, as well as an expression of thanks to God. 2 Cor. 9:12-15 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
